Uploading a voiceover

Build around your own recorded narration instead of generating a voice from text.

On this page

#Attach your recording

  1. Open the attachment menu

On Dashboard, select the + button and choose Add voiceover, then select your audio file. You can also drag an audio file onto the page.

  2. Check the attachment

Wait for Kinema to read its duration. The composer displays the attached material and uses its runtime for the estimate.

  3. Set the language

Open the language flag and choose the language spoken in your recording. This matters for captions.

  4. Finish setup

Choose a niche, sources, and a theme, then review Ready to build? before confirming.

#Recording requirements

  • Hosted uploads support files up to 4 GB and recordings from 6 to 40 minutes.
  • Use a file your browser recognizes as audio. If a file cannot be read, export a fresh audio copy from your recording tool and try again.
  • One material recording can be attached at a time. Remove it before switching to a script or another take.
  • An audio attachment supplies the narration, so choosing a generated narration voice is not required.

#Prepare the recording

Use a clear voice recording with the timing and delivery you want in the video. Remove unwanted setup chatter and long gaps before uploading. Listen through the file to catch missing words or an abrupt ending.

If you want Kinema to add a music bed, enable Music in Sources. Consider providing a clean narration file without a baked-in music track so the generated music does not compete with existing audio.

#Add a presenter to recorded audio

You can pair an uploaded audio voiceover with AI presenter. Enable the source, open Presenter, and select an avatar. Your audio remains the narration while the selected presenter appears in on-camera sections.

For a real recording of someone speaking to camera, use Talking-head video instead.
